When you are only doing business locally, you do not have to consider import taxes, international shipping, and having to pass quality control (QC) tests of foreign companies. All these factors should definitely be taken into account for strategic sourcing to take place.
Strategic sourcing for international commerce must also be about ensuring that your supplier does not end up defrauding you. It is critical that you are able to put up legal measures that will prevent or minimize chances of fraud on your supplier’s part. At the very least, you have to make sure that your contract is ironbound and does not contain any loopholes that could put you at risk.
